Five Key Pledges from Alistair
Alistair McConnachie will take full advantage of the opportunities available to help and represent his constituents in the Glasgow Region, and will take full advantage of the law-making instruments to which he will be entitled. In that regard, Alistair will:
1. MAKE LAWS
Each MSP can introduce 2 "Bills" in the 4-year session of the Scottish Parliament. A Bill will be voted upon and may become law -- when it will become known officially as an "An Act of the Scottish Parliament". When elected Alistair will:
(1) Introduce a Bill to establish a "Scottish Debt Commission" which will study the nature of our debt-based money system, promote understanding of the link between unsustainable growth and poverty and the way money is created as a debt for the profit of the private banking system, and develop solutions including a publicly-owned, democratic, accountable and not-for-profit Public Investment Bank, to create money debt-free, at no cost to the taxpayer, to fund public projects.
(2) Introduce a Bill to establish Local Food Officers throughout Scotland who will develop local food initiatives to connect consumers to producers, promote health, reduce food poverty, and stimulate local economies. It will also require schools and hospitals to source a percentage of food locally.
2. SET UP A CROSS-PARTY GROUP
An MSP can also set up a "Cross-Party Group" to promote a particular issue. In addition to the "Debt Commission" Bill, Alistair pledges to set up a Cross-Party Group to investigate and promote reform of the debt-based money system and to consider alternative public funding methods based on our debt-free money proposals.
3. STAND UP FOR OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES
An MSP can also organise Conferences to highlight important topics and use his or her public profile to develop areas of concern. Alistair pledges to organise an annual Civil Liberties Conference in the Parliament, to stand up for our civil liberties, protect and promote our freedom of speech, and defend and develop our democratic rights.
4. OPPOSE WAR WITH IRAN
Alistair pledges to invite Iranian political leaders, including President Ahmadinejad, to Scotland to dialogue with the Scottish people for peace.
5. DONATE MONEY TO CHARITY
Alistair pledges to donate £10,000 of his salary a year to a Glasgow-based charity.
