IN MEMORIAM

Pat Broadway was a passionate lover of her country. Although waiting for months for a triple-heart bypass, which left her quite disabled, she attended all marches, arranged meetings, and was responsible for the march and rally in Bath against the EU Constitution, which she led in her wheelchair.

During our discussions before the march, I asked her why she did not take it easy in preparation for her operation. Her reply, "Pam, I have to do this in case I don't make it." She had her operation on 1st December and died on the 17th December 2004.

For those who knew her, she was a patriot extraordinaire. There will be no medal for Pat or a mention in the Honours List but she, no less than our armed forces, put her country before her life. In this age, when those who are supposed to govern on our behalf put power and money before duty, this is a reminder that there are still a number of people who are not prepared to compromise on freedom. Rest in Peace, Pat.

Pam Barden
