GLASGOW ANTI-WAR MARCH
Pictures by Alistair McConnachie15th FEBRUARY 2003

Lead Bus
The Anti-war march in Glasgow on 15th February was attended by around 80,000-100,000 people. People assembled at Glasgow Green around 10am, and the March began at 11am. The route took it from the Green, up the High Street, onto Ingram Street, then onto St Vincent Street until its end at Finnieston Street, then down to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC). The start of the March reached the SECC at 12 noon, but the end of the March did not finish until 2pm. We took photos of the anti war March in Glasgow -- as shown on this page, plus gm2.html and gm3.html.

Right: the March was led by a bus containing the Public Address System, after the organisers had been forbidden from using a public platform by the SECC, which was hosting the Labour Party Spring Conference.
The man pictured led the march by shouting "Freedom for Palestine - Don't Attack Iraq". When the march entered the SECC car park, he shouted "Put the kettle on Tony, I've brought some of my friends to meet you!"

Above: Interestingly, the March was notable for having a complete absence of "Socialist Worker Party" placards (although the SWP had a lot of placards at the London March). It's been suggested to Sovereignty, that this was probably a deal between the SWP and the SSP in order to allow the banners of the SSP free range. However, the overwhelming majority of the placards visible, were produced by MAB - the Muslim Association of Britain - or by the Scottish Daily Mirror newspaper (as pictured on right).
