Figures for Britain's War Dead since the First World War
 

The following is a list of British soldiers, sailors, marines, RAF personnel and merchant seamen killed on active service since the First World War. It was published in The Scotsman on the 11-11-06.

The Great War (1914-1918): Total killed in action, plus those who died of disease or injury, plus missing in action, 956,703. Total British Army deaths on the Western Front, 564,715.

Second World War (1939-1945): Total British military deaths, 382,600, of which RAF Bomber Command casualties, 55,888. British merchant seamen 30,248.

Palestine (1945-1948): 233.

Yangtse River, China (1949): 46.

The Korean War (1950-53): 1,109.

Malayan Emergency (1950s): 519.

Egypt: (1951-54): 54.

Kenya (1952-56): 12.

Suez Invasion (1956): 22.

Cyprus (1955-1958): 79.

Borneo Campaign (1962-66): 16.

Aden Emergency (1964-1966): 68.

Dhofar (1970-76): 24.

Falklands War (1982): 255.

Northern Ireland (1969-1998): Regular British Army, 452. Ulster Defence Regiment/Royal Irish Regiment, 203.

Gulf War 1 (1992): 47.

Sierra Leone (2000): 1.

Afghanistan since 2001: 41 including 21 in non-combat deaths.

Gulf War 2 since 2003 (as of 11 November 2006): 121.
